Two Injured In Horse Drawn Carriage Crash
Two women suffered injuries on Tuesday afternoon after a horse drawn carriage bolted in Fuengirola town centre, colliding with two vehicles before flipping onto its side.
The crash happened at around 3:30pm near Plaza de la Constitución. According to eyewitness accounts the horse was spooked and bolted. The carriage struck the central reservation before veering into oncoming traffic, crashing into a delivery lorry and a motorbike which were stopped at a red light. The impact caused the carriage to overturn, throwing the driver to the ground. Emergency medical services and Fuengirola Local Police arrived at the scene quickly.
The female carriage driver was taken by ambulance to the Hospital Costa del Sol near Marbella. She is being treated for severe head injuries and is currently in a serious condition. The female motorcyclist sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
Despite the dramatic nature of the crash, the horse escaped unharmed. The horse fell into the road, but was helped back to its feet by nearby members of the public.
