Marbella Rail Link A Top Priority

There have been calls for a rail link between Fuengirola and Marbella for many years. Now two separate studies have found that a rail link between the towns could save almost €300 million every year. The Association Of Spanish Construction Companies (Seopan) have placed the railway extension on high priority.

This now places the rail link project higher on the list of priorities than 813 other projects, including works in Barcelona and Madrid. This news follows the cuts applied to Malaga’s budget, which was slashed to €130 million. There are suggestions that the national government should now allocate a budget for this project.

Tourism

Tina Jones runs a guest management agency within a travel company based in Marbella. She told us that “Even from the point of view of tourism, this rail link is much needed. Guests land at Malaga, and should be able to take one train all the way to Marbella. In an ideal world, even further. This link would be a huge boost for the area”.
