Crowds celebrating the Pride Festival in Torremolinos
As the gay pride rainbow flag flew over Torremolinos town hall, Councillor Aida Blanes said the event demonstrated a ‘a celebration of integration, coexistence between people who are lesbian, gay, transsexual, bisexual and intersexual.’
9000 people took part in the annual march through the streets of Torremolinos, before enjoying live music from Dana International. Alongside the carnival atmosphere, there was an educational goal as well. Leaflets were handed out to try and raise awareness of STIs, and free testing was offered to everyone at the event who wanted it.
Jamie Lee Daniels travelled to Torremolinos Gay Pride from Essex and told 93.6 Global Radio that this year’s event was the best so far. “I’ve been coming to pride here for the last 3 years, and every year it gets bigger and better. This year was amazing. The atmosphere is very supportive, friendly, and fun. I can’t thank our hosts in Spain enough for putting on such a fantastic event.”
