Fuengirola Fighter Preparing For UK Debut
The Costa del Sol is rallying behind expat professional fighter Victoria “La Guiri” Lomax, as she prepares to step onto the big stage for her highly anticipated UK debut. On Sunday July 12th Lomax will head to the Brentwood Centre in Essex to face undefeated British prospect Shona Whitwell in a high stakes, six round lightweight (60kg) contest.
For Lomax, who is originally from Manchester and now co-owns Spartans Gym in Fuengirola with her husband and coach Alberto Chamon, the fight marks a career defining milestone.
From 100kg to World Champion
Lomax’s journey to professional boxing is nothing short of extraordinary. Born in Manchester, England, she spent years moving around the globe before permanently settling on the Spanish coast. Her start in combat sports began when she weighed nearly 100kg – a time she admits troubled her both physically and mentally. Seeking a way to transform her health, she walked into a gym to try kickboxing.
Her natural talent was immediately clear. Dropping down to a fiercely fit 55kg under the early guidance of ex-European champion Ilde Garcia, Lomax transitioned into a full time professional kickboxer. From there, she skyrocketed into a global powerhouse, securing titles as a two time World champion, an Intercontinental champion, and a two time Spanish champion. Her career saw her competing in massive 12,000 seat stadiums in Germany, fighting in Chinese arenas, and even starring on a Thai reality television show.
Unfortunately, a severe long term left knee injury temporarily halted her trajectory, preventing her from effectively executing her signature kicks and blocks. Refusing to step away from the fighting world, she shifted her focus entirely to the “noble art” of professional boxing, launching her new path in late 2024.
The road to this UK debut on DAZN was paved right here on the coast. A chance holiday visit to Marbella by British Boxing Board of Control licensed matchmaker Asa Clark changed everything. Clark visited Spartans Gym, watched Vicky on the pads with her husband Alberto, and promised to bring her to the UK.
Now, the promoter of Top Tier, Johnny Clark, is giving her the major platform she has earned. “Victoria has earned this platform through years of dedication, sacrifice, and relentless hard work,” Clark says. “Her journey is a testament to perseverance and professionalism, and I believe she deserves the chance to showcase her talent on a major stage.”
Preparing For The Fight
Lomax enters the ring as the underdog against Shona Whitwell, a decorated seven time national amateur champion who holds a 3-0 professional record, including two stoppages. However Vicky remains completely unfazed by statistics and has boldly warned Whitwell that she is preparing to “go to war.”
Local fans on the Costa del Sol looking to support “La Guiri” can tune in to watch her bout live on DAZN on July 12th.
