Weather Warning For Wind And Rain

A yellow weather warning is now in place on the Costa Del Sol.  The Costa Del Sol skies were recently turned a deep rust red by the phenomenon known locally as “calima”.  More sand storms are likely this evening and at times tomorrow.    The haze is caused by sand which is collected by winds from the Sahara desert and deposited with the rain here.

Today’s weather warning is specifically for gale force 7 winds and heavy rain.  Winds could reach speeds of up to 80 km/h on the Costa Del Sol, with waves of up to 4 metres.  The yellow warning is in place until 8pm this evening.  Yellow is the least severe of the three weather warning levels.  The heavy rainfall is being welcomed as local reservoirs have extremely low water levels and experts are warning of drought this summer.
