Mijas Begins Forest Fire Prevention Plan
Work has begun in the Mijas area to minimise the risk of devastating forest fires this summer. There has been more rain than usual this winter, leading to increased growth of vegetation which will pose fire risks as the ground dries out in the summer months. Mijas Town Hall has now started pruning, cleaning, and clearing scrubland. Forestry and maintenance crews will continue working on the plan throughout May.
Protecting Endangered Species
Mayor Ana Mata visited the area and described how steps are being taken to protect vegetation and wildlife whilst the work in being carried out. She said that the utmost care is being taken, and that “no species listed in Spain’s national endangered species register, the Andalusian catalogue, or any species subject to strict protection would be cut, uprooted or otherwise harmed.”
