Torremolinos Woman Killed By Falling Tree.  A 31 year old woman has been killed by a falling tree in Torremolinos during Tuesday’s storm.

Torremolinos Woman Killed By Falling Tree

A woman has died after being hit by a falling palm tree in Torremolinos. The 31 year old woman, who has not yet been named, was killed on Tuesday (27th January) on Avenida Palma de Mallorca when a palm tree was blown over by by the gale force winds.  Emergency services were unable to resuscitate her at the scene. Wind speeds reached 80km/h as storm Joseph hit the Costa Del Sol, with several weather warnings in place since Monday.

Almost 200 Emergency Calls

Almost 200 calls related to the severe weather have been made to emergency services in the Malaga area over the last three days, as gale force 8 winds and 15mm of rainfall an hour hit the Costa Del Sol at times.  Most of the area’s public parks have been closed.  Power cuts have also been reported in several towns along the coast.

In Torremolinos there were three emergency calls about fallen signage and sheet metal.  Calls were made in Estepona to report a collapsed aerial mast, flooded garages, and fallen trees.  Several emergency calls were made in Alhaurin El Grande and Alhaurin De La Torre to report telegraph poles which had been blown over.

Roads Closed Because Of Storm Damage

Several roads have been closed to due fallen trees.  These include the MA-8300 which links the A7 with Casares, and the MA-8301 between Estepona and Jubrique.

Schools have been closed in the Ronda area as a safety precaution, and ten people were evacuated from their homes in the small village of Estación de Jimera de Líbar.  The Guadiaro River has burst its banks in places, as residents in Cortes de la Frontera have been advised to move to the upper floors of their homes.
